I passed the diagonal line of trees from the white farmhouse many hundreds of times from the road hidden behind the trees running across the middle of the picture. they always reminded me of tuscany but couldn’t find a suitable location to make a good composition. i finally found it in the autumn of 2019 while walking down a hill from the church in the small village of little gaddesdon in hertforshire.
a view from incombe hole
incombe hole is at the bottom of the frame, just out of sight. it was created by meltwater from glaciers which nudged up against this section of the chilterns during the last ice age. the view looks across to pitstone hill and buckinghamshire.
